CS2 knives: what to know before you buy
Knives are the rarest items you can unbox in Counter-Strike: they drop as rare special items from cases, marked with a gold star (★). There are twenty knife models, from the original Bayonet, Flip, Gut and Karambit to the Kukri introduced in the Kilowatt Case.
The most popular models are the Karambit, Butterfly Knife, M9 Bayonet, Bayonet, Talon and Skeleton Knife. Finishes such as Doppler, Gamma Doppler, Fade, Marble Fade and Tiger Tooth are shared across models, so the same finish can differ widely in price depending on the knife. Float, pattern and StatTrak status also matter.

Frequently asked questions
What is the cheapest way to get a CS2 knife?
Buying one. Valve's published odds put a rare special item at about 0.26% per case opened, so buying the exact knife you want almost always costs less than unboxing it.
Which knife models are the most expensive?
Demand drives it: Karambit, Butterfly Knife and M9 Bayonet usually top the range, while Gut, Navaja and Shadow Daggers are the most affordable for a given finish.
What does vanilla mean?
A knife with no painted finish. Vanilla knives have no float or exterior.
Can knives be StatTrak or Souvenir?
Knives can be StatTrak, which counts kills, but never Souvenir.
