TF2 crates: what to know before you buy
Crates and cases are the boxes of Team Fortress 2: you open one with a key and receive one item from its list. Mann Co. Supply Crates, cosmetic cases and War Paint cases each have their own contents, and opening any of them has a small chance of an Unusual item.
Most crates open with a Mann Co. Supply Crate Key, but some older or special crates need their own key, so check the item page before you buy. Crate prices are usually low because many drop in normal play, while discontinued cases with sought-after contents can climb in price over time.

Frequently asked questions
Which key opens a crate?
Most need a Mann Co. Supply Crate Key. Some special or older crates require a matching key, which the item description names.
Can a crate give an Unusual?
Yes. Most crates and cases have a small chance of an Unusual item. Which kinds of Unusual are possible depends on the crate.
Why are some crates cheaper than the key?
Many crates drop for free while playing, so supply is high. The key is what you pay for when opening.
