TF2 cosmetics: what to know before you buy
Cosmetics are the hats, misc items and accessories that change how a Team Fortress 2 class looks without changing how it plays. Each class can wear up to three cosmetics at once, and many items are all-class, so the same hat can travel across your whole loadout.
The quality shown in the item name matters as much as the item itself. Unique is the standard version, while Vintage, Genuine, Haunted, Collector's and Strange copies are rarer. Unusual cosmetics carry a particle effect such as Burning Flames or Sunbeams, and the effect often decides the price more than the hat does. Many cosmetics can also be recolored with paint cans.
